Why Nerves Are Never Good For You: What Every Singer, Actor, Dancer and Musician Need To Know
What You Need To Know About Nerves If You Are A Singer, Actor, Dancer or Musician
There has been a myth floating around since the dawn of time - that nerves are good for you.
It’s a lie. It’s not true.
And if you really want to be free from nerves when you perform then you need to drop this belief NOW!
Remember this; just because somebody said it, it doesn’t mean it’s true.
Let me tell you the real truth so you can finally move forward from this issue and have a life and career you love.
Performing And The Truth About Nerves
First of all my dear performer, let me clear up a few things. I must explain to you what nerves are and what they are not.
As Hypnotherapist to singers, actors, dancers and musicians all over the world from Broadway, the West End, Film, TV, pop music and world class orchestras I’ve learned a thing or two about nerves - nerves ruin careers and they devastate lives.
Nerves And What They Are Not
First of all let me tell you what nerves are NOT…
Nerves are not that fluttery feeling we call butterflies in your tummy.
Nerves are not when you feel a little increase in your heart rate.
Nerves are not when you fidget and pace around and feel a little increase in your heart rate and breathing.
All these are normal, natural and acceptable physical reactions to doing something outside your normal comfort zone. It’s called adrenaline and it has some really useful and positive uses. It keeps you focussed, gives you energy and keeps you sharp when and where you need it.
It is REALLY important to distinguish between normal and natural physical responses and ACTUAL nerves. Which brings me on to this…
Nerves And What They Are
Now let me tell you what nerves ARE…
Nerves are when you feel sick and your stomach is in knots, sometimes even causing physical pain.
Nerves are when your mind goes blank and you can’t think properly.
Nerves are when you lose control of your body and you don’t sing, dance, act or play as well as you know you can.
Of course nerves will manifest in completely different ways for different people, but I am using the above as an example of a few symptoms to show you the difference. You can start to see how the myth “nerves are good for you” seems to suddenly hold much less truth, if any at all.
A performer who has a REAL problem with nerves will tell you that they wish, with every ounce of their being, that they did NOT have nerves and that they are most definitely NOT good for you.
I have heard of performers giving up their careers because nerves took over their lives and eventually turn into what we call stage fright. I only wish I had managed to work with them…
Overcoming Singers’ Nerves
My clients lovingly refer to me as THE NERVE BUSTER. This is because I get straight to the root cause of what is causing the nerves in the first place, and then give those habits and mechanisms new jobs to do in the subconscious mind. And yes, it really can be that easy.
I am on a mission to help as many performers, just like you, to eliminate nerves from your life so you can enjoy a happy, fun and successful time doing what you love, while loving doing it.
As a performer you are a special person (I think you are, I hope you do!) You’re here on this planet to use your gift to bring joy, light, healing and upliftment to others through the power of your performance. It is not possible to do this when you suffer with real nerves.
If you feel that nerves is becoming a problem for you, or if they have already become a serious problem, perhaps even stage fright, then PLEASE reach out to me and ask for help. Just pop your name and email in the box and I’ll email you a link to book a free phone call with me.
It is NEVER too late to fix yourself, heal your life and solve nerves or performance anxiety. You just need the right advice, guidance and an expert to guide you. That’s why I am here my friend.
So, you have a choice - you can get your problem sorted NOW and fall in love with performing all over again OR you can carry on letting nerves control your life, preventing you from being your best and ruining your experience of one of the things you love most.
